Deeper with the GeForce 7900GTX

The GeForce 7900GTX is the latest incarnation of the GeForce 7 architecture. However, unlike the previous generation, the GeForce 7900GTX offer performance at an affordable price and that's for the high end. Critics (including us) is a little bit dissapointed since it's just a higher clocked GeForce 7800GTX, but that doesn't mean the card is not without merit. On the contrary, performance is up there with the GeForce 7800GTX 512. By far, this is the fastest GeForce 7 series (yet).

ASUS sent word a press release concerning their GeForce 7900 and 7600 series cards. First of the GeForce 7900GTX

Here's a snip from the press release:

"ASUSTeK Computer Inc (ASUS), a leading provider of high-performance graphics solutions, today introduced the EN7900 series graphics cards that include EN7900GT, EN7900GT Top, and EN7900GTX. All of which are built for Windows Vista and incorporated newest generation of Nvidia's GeForce 7900 series GPUs with fastest DDR3 capable of overall clock speeds of up to 1.6GHz in the top model, while still harnessing the benefit of overclocking to achieve unparalleled performance."



Funny though, no mention of a GeForce 7900GTX TOP - a slightly higher clocked 7900GTX. Except for the 7900GT TOP, clocks speeds are standard:

For the budget concious gamer, they also have a line of GeForce 7600GT and 7600GS. These are silent variants using only heatsink with heatpipes. Should be good for a SFF or an HTPC box.

Deeper with the Radeon X1900 Series - Part 2

As promised, here's our newest article examining adaptive antialiasing and HDR rendering on the Radeon X1900 XTX. We were pretty surprised to see that ATI's adaptive antialiasing still leave much to be desired, particularly compared to GeForce 7800GTX. But that doesn't mean the Radeon X1900 is not without promise - HDR rendering is not only faster.

Both Chaintech and Leadtek have announced new cards based on the recently launched GeForce 7900 series. Leadtek will also be launching a slightly higher clocked card - the WinFast PX 7900GTX TDH, though not info on just how much higher (yet).

Here's a snip from the press release:

Chaintech's new cards will stick to the reference specification. Here's a snip from their press release:

"The Chaintech GAE79GTX has 512MB of-256 bit memory and clocked at 650MHz (core) and 1600MHz (memory). Meanwhile, the GAE79GT will be clocked at 450MHz (core) and 1320MHz (memory). It will be equipped with 256MB of-256 bit memory. The MSRP of the GAE79GT is $299 and $449.for the GAE79GTX."
